CBSE FA-4 Replaced by Problem Solving Assessment

CBSE will take 90 marks Problem Solving Assessment in January-February 2013 for class 9 and class 11 students. This will replace school based forth formative assessment (FA-4).
The FA-4 carries 10% marks (10 marks out of 100) and PSA will carry 90 marks. It means students will have to sit in this 90 Marks (60 questions) paper that will be conducted by the Board (not by the school) but the weightage for this test will be rounded off to 10% (10 marks) only)
In simpler form, work hard for 90 marks but you will get only 10 marks if you score 100% in this exam.
Is it making the study stressful or joyful. In our opinion CBSE is creating so many complications and confusions. CCE is not really joyful as claimed by CBSE. The exam system is being made so complicated that schools and parents will need to hire a consultant to understand what is CCE and what to study in particular month.

Problem-Solving Skills in CBSE class 9 and Class 11

CBSE is going to introduce Problem Solving Skills in class 9 and class 11 in the session 2012-13 (current session). The exam will be conducted in January-February 2013. The same will be extended to class 10 in next session. This test will replace FA-4.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is planning to initiate a ‘Problem Solving Assessment’ (CBSE-PSA) for students of classes IX and XI from the second term of the 2012-13 session.
Although there is no specific syllabus for CBSE-PSA, it will assess students in the following areas – quantitative reasoning, qualitative reasoning and language conventions.
CBSE-PSA, which will be compulsory for students of classes IX and XI, is likely to be conducted during the month of January-February 2013 and carry 90 marks. There will be 60 questions of MCQ type.
According to Vineet Joshi, chairman, CBSE, It is a widely acknowledged fact that research and analytical skills, ability to apply basic concepts of different subjects, solve application-based problems in mathematics and science, comprehend and analyse written text and effective communication are the skills, which ensure success in higher studies and professional areas.
He says, “These dimensions of 21st Century life-skills will assist learners in acquiring higher order thinking skills such as problem-solving and decision- making. There will be no separate time-tables or periods for teaching or practice of PSA in schools.”
